| Plitvice Lakes
Located only few hours drive north of Split, Plitvice
Lakes National Park will open the whole new world for you, so much different
than the rest of Croatia. Prepare to be stunned by its breathtaking
wilderness!
Plitvice was first mentioned as the "Devil's Garden" on the
maps drawn in the seventeenth century. Given the fact that the whole
surrounding region of Lika was at that time in Ottoman hands, the epithet
"Devil's" appears understandable. However, Plitvice is nothing
but the paradise for all nature lovers, today. Waterfalls, crystal clear
water, and abundance of fresh air are on every step of its numerous
hiking trails. An electric boat ride and the shuttle bus around Plitvice
Lakes are also available for a small fee. And after the long day, you
will work out your appetite. Picnic tables and the home-style barbecue
dishes will definitely satisfy. For more information about Plitvice,
UNESCO protected national park, please visit Plitvice.
A weekend stay is recommended. Many hotels and private accommodation
units are available for rent in the area.
